When I say “overdressed,” I don’t mean: not appropriate for the occasion. I have no idea what occasion Basil Gill here is heading toward. I only mean: He has so many things on.
We’ve got a double-breasted vest, a jacket, a cape on top of the jacket, an oversized cravat and a top hat. That’s a lot of look.
To be fair, Basil was a British actor from 1911 to the 1930s, so this is likely for a role. (Even so, my husband declares: It’s just too much.) He was primarily a Shakespearean actor at first and eventually moved into silent film and was a bit of a matinee idol.
