So I went handsome for our premiere Vintage Dudesday. I’m going in a different direction this week.
This is labeled a family photo from the early 1900s.
I’d like to point out the obvious: These men are wearing giant fur coats.
As a reminder, photos weren’t common in the way they are now. They were kind of a big deal. So these men wore their fur coats.
It was hard for me to imagine these guys walking about town in these coats, but some quick Googling proved I better start imagining it. Raccoon coats, in particular, were popular with both men and women in the early 1900s. And they were often fashioned with the shawl collar you see here. If you couldn’t afford raccoon, you might get a fur coat of lynx or sheepskin.
So there’s our dudes of the week!
